  4.     It is an international disgrace for an American Marine to be
  5. shown hanging from a rope (NATION, Aug. 14). What is it going to
  6. take for the Bush Administration to realize that military action
  7. is the only way to stop terrorism in the Middle East? In 1981, at
  8. the end of the Iran hostage crisis, Ronald Reagan promised "swift
  9. and effective retribution" in response to any future terrorist acts
  10. against Americans. I believe Lieut. Colonel William Higgins and
  11. other Marines would be alive today if our political leaders had
  12. practiced what they preached.

  17.     The U.S. cannot be held accountable for the safety of its
  18. citizens who choose to live in a precarious land. Those who go on
  19. official U.S. business or of their own accord are well aware of the
  20. possibility of abduction. If they are kidnaped, America can attempt
  21. to rescue them, but terrorists should not be allowed to hold our
  22. entire Government hostage.

  27.     The Israelis are the only ones with the guts to fight
  28. terrorism. The leaders of other nations sit by while their citizens
  29. are kidnaped, but Israel is fighting fire with fire. By abducting
  30. Sheik Obeid, this brave country gave the murderous Arabs a dose of
  31. their own medicine.
